Linn Shorts: The One for Every Occasion – Except Perhaps Space Travel

Guest Author: Astrid Biemann

Ah, vacations with children – those blissfully tranquil times of lounging languidly in the sun, taking refreshing dips in the pool, followed by a relaxing shower before having dinner... Wait, that doesn’t sound like your typical family holiday? Didn’t think so! Let’s be honest – when travelling with children you might experience more in a single hour than others do throughout their entire summer: biking across winding trails, hiking through lush landscapes, climbing rocky hills, swimming in remote lakes, building elaborate sandcastles with moats and towers, racing like the wind, and playing soccer. And preferably all at once! But changing into dry clothes in-between adventures? No time for such nonsense! Drying off? Completely overrated when there’s exploring to be done! The only problem: Those wet swim shorts chafe and will turn mountain hikes or bike tours into a nightmare. Not to mention that there are certainly more pleasant experiences than the constant clammy feeling on one’s legs.

That’s when our Linn shorts spring into action. A pair of shorts that is capable to withstand anything. With no changing and no restrictions – just put them on and off you go.

Multifunctional Shorts: Quick-drying, Stretchy, and Comfortable When Chiara, our Product Manager, joined namuk three years ago, the Linn Shorts became her first passion project. “The Linn shorts were the first new style I developed at namuk, and I’m still head over heels in love with them to this day,” she explains. The vision was clear: to create shorts that would withstand pretty much anything young explorers want to experience during their summer adventures.

For this reason, the Linn shorts needed to be ultralight, quick-drying, comfortable, non-constricting, and equipped with high sun protection – a trusty companion that your little adventurers can rely on, no matter if they’re heading for a hike or a swim in the lake. Another benefit of this allrounder are its clever mesh pockets that drain water faster than you can say “cannonball”. “Due to the lightweight fabric, children can hike, bike, climb, and play in their backyard – all while being able to jump straight into sparkling rivers or shimmering pools whenever the chance presents itself,” Chiara says. And that’s exactly what makes the Linn shorts so extraordinary.

To ensure the Linn shorts could withstand every mountain summit adventure, every mud-puddle championship, and every playground slide marathon, the namuk team embarked on a quest for the perfect material. Easier said than done, considering it needed to meet the high demands of any little explorer: It needs to be comfortable and soft, shouldn’t chafe, should be available in all favorite colors, must dry quickly, shouldn’t promote sweating, and of course, needs to look great!

Sustainable Children’s Clothing: What is ECONYL®?

In terms of the material, one thing was certain right from the very beginning: It should not only be functional but also environmentally friendly. With ECONYL®, namuk discovered a material that not only makes our little exploring owls hoot with joy but also helps preserve nature’s playground through recycled materials.

The Linn shorts consist of 94% ECONYL® fibers, crafted from rescued nylon waste such as abandoned fishing nets, carpet lint, and industrial plastic waste – materials that would otherwise become sad castaways in our magnificent oceans or be discarded on mountain-sized landfills. After being collected and cleaned, this waste is processed into high-quality yarn that is durable, soft and breathable.

Plus: ECONYL® doesn’t require additional resources like petroleum, and the CO₂ emissions are significantly lower compared to that in conventional nylon production. By choosing this material, we strive to ensure that our world remains the most spectacular adventure playground for future generations of tiny explorers! To guarantee that we had chosen the right material worthy of our young adventurers, it was tested for everyday durability and adventure-readiness – not just by the namuk team, but also by our mole crew. After all, who knows better than our kids what truly matters when it comes to new clothing?

“We test every new material before it joins our collection – and the ECONYL quality really impressed us," Chiara explains. We sent prototypes – as long pants – to our namuk test families to see how durable the material really is. “We were amazed when the seemingly delicate fabric returned without a single battle scar! And the feedback from our young adventurers was consistently positive – they absolutely loved the pants.”

Spoiler alert: The experiences with ECONYL® gave the product team lots of inspiration. “The tests with the Linn shorts have inspired us – we’ve created a new model with the same lightweight fabric to be launched in 2026,” Chiara reveals. We won’t give away any more details yet. But it will be another versatile item for summer quests – and a fantastic addition for all little (and not-so-little) explorers.

Our Linn Shorts: A Summer Essential with Potential

For namuk, sustainability means more than just finding the perfect material. We’re also convinced that you don’t need an overflowing treasure chest of clothing to be perfectly equipped for every wilderness quest. High-quality clothing that transforms for different adventures – that’s the secret of any explorer. Or as Chiara puts it: “We focus on products that are functional for different situations. This way, children can conquer any terrain with just a few exceptional pieces.” This is especially true of the Linn shorts, which will get your little wildlings through (almost) the whole summer without having to change. Okay, every now and then the shorts need to be washed. But who knows, maybe we’ll solve that challenge in the future too?

You’ve already found out earlier that they are great for playing, swimming and biking. To ensure that they are super comfortable to wear in any situation, the Linn shorts are made from 94% regenerated nylon and 6% spandex which results in a stretchy material that guarantees absolute freedom of movement. The waistband with belt was designed so that children can easily open it themselves if they need to take the shorts off, for example to sleep or to wash them.

And what’s the absolute superpower of our hiking and swimming shorts? Their unrivaled sun protection! Because no busy treasure hunter has time for constant sunscreen battles. That’s why we have chosen a material that protects your little ones with an UPF 50+. After all, sunburned explorers rarely discover hidden waterfalls or secret forest paths!

So, whether you’re planning a hiking or biking tour or just want to chill out by the beach or pool, our Linn shorts can handle everything that kids enjoy doing in summer! They’re specially designed for children who’ll never pass on one of life’s adventures. They’re ultralight, dry in no time, shield from sunlight, are perfect for every situation – and are also made responsibly. Finally, there’s a pair of shorts that can handle everything from hiking through forests, meadows and mountains to skateboarding tricks in the neighborhood and swimming in the lake. Summer is right around the corner – and the Linn shorts are ready to join any adventure!
