Care instructions snow gloves

How to care for your snow gloves and mittens

What’s most important in winter? Correct: Making snowballs and building snow sculptures without getting cold fingers! That’s why we use warm, yet light-as-a-feather, PrimaLoft® Bio™ insulation in our gloves and mittens. Our gloves and mittens are water repellent and warm kids’ hands even in damp conditions. PrimaLoft® Bio™ is made of 100% PCR recycled synthetic fibers and returns to materials found in nature. Moreover, it’s especially robust and low-maintenance, making it the perfect material for your children’s gloves and mittens.

With the right care, the gloves can also be used by younger siblings.

How do I wash my gloves and mittens in the washing machine?

  • Remove stains and dirt with warm water and a soft brush
  • Pro tip: Gall soap works great on grease stains. Pre-treat the stain with gall soap or another stain remover, let sit for 30 minutes, then rinse
  • Place gloves in a mesh laundry bag or a pillowcase
  • Use cleaner made for outdoor functional clothing (we recommend Nikwax Tech Wash, but there are also comparable good products. You can find instructions for Nikwax Tech Wash below)
  • Do not use powdered detergent, heavy-duty detergent, fabric softener, or bleach
  • Use cleaner sparingly
  • Machine wash on delicate cycle (cool or cold setting)

How do I dry my snow gloves and mittens?

  • After washing, carefully press out water, moving from the fingertips to the wrist (do not squeeze or wring out the gloves). You can also wrap them in a towel, for example, while doing this.
  • To dry the gloves, it’s best to lay them on a drying rack or hang them up.
  • Pro tip: Put the washed gloves on ski poles or wooden spoons, or hang them from the clothesline by their longest finger. That way, water can run down from the inside of the gloves, and they’ll soon be ready for the next snowball fight.

How to waterproof snow gloves correctly

  • Important: The gloves must be clean before waterproofing them
  • A special waterproofing liquid for outdoor and functional clothing that can be used in the washing machine is best for gloves. Our favorite is Nikwax Tech Wash (you can find instructions below). But you can also find many other products that work well in stores.
  • In case you use a waterproofing spray: Do not spray it on the faux-leather palm of the glove!

Why gloves and mittens from namuk?

Very warm

The PrimaLoft® insulation uses a patented microfiber structure to help retain body heat and conserve energy.

High waterproofness

Such high standards (15,000 mm water column) are not the norm for children's gloves. However, it is extremely important to us that the little rascals stay dry during outdoor adventures and are outside for as long as possible.

Soft

The microfleece lining keeps bodies warm in all kinds of weather and sits comfortably on that tender kids skin.

Reinforced, slip-resistant

With silicon print on the palm for extra grip.

How to use Nikwax

For the second washing cycle, use Nikwax “TX Direct” – permanent, wash-in waterproofing for textiles with waterproof, breathable membranes:

  • Clean ski clothing first with Nikwax Tech Wash
  • Shake well before use
  • Add 3.5 fl oz (100 ml) per item
  • Wash no more than three items at a time
  • Machine wash on delicate cycle (cool or cold setting)
  • Air dry clothing

Caring for your snow gloves: A few more tips to keep in mind

  • After use in snow, air the gloves out well. Open all closures wide.
  • Don’t put them away (in a drawer, for example) while wet or damp – or the gloves may end up with a musty smell.

Keeping your gloves in great shape all winter (and beyond)

If you follow these simple laundering and care tips, you’ll get lasting enjoyment from your gloves. They protect your kids’ fingers in frosty temperatures and a day in the snow.
